2019 BMW X3 sDrive30i

Posted: Wed. Aug. 21 00:26:43 2019

LARGEST SELECTION OF LUXURY CARS ON THE SPACE COAST.
- The default HiFi audio system is good enough for my needs and is almost on par with the premium $2000 audio system I had on my Tucson 2011. For the best audio experience the premium sound upgrade is available but many will find the default HiFi sufficient. I thought I need the HK audio upgrade but after testing the sound I saw no need.

Cons:
- there is no apple car play in the default trim and the Apple car play option is a subscription; this is the biggest negative for a car that has $43.5K MSRP
- didn’t see any benefit from the lane assist (I may not have it properly configured);
- non-touch LCD screen; I truly believe that companies like Mercedes, Audi and BMW need to change their obsoleted mentality about not providing an LCD. This is a must on any car in the Standard trim.
- the $500 safety upgrade to blind spot should be in the standard package. Just increase the basic price by $500 if you want to charge for it. This is the expectation every 2019/2020 driver has.
- a bit more expensive than Audi Q5 which includes more upgrades in the standard package, but preferred the X3 over Q5 as the driving experience is overall better

Other comments:
- mpg in eco mode with very careful driving achieved 32 mpg; my Hundai Tucson GLS 2011 2.4L engine (160 HP) achieved 30 mpg on same segment while Mercedes GLE 350 (302 HP) achieved 21 mpg (eco mode)
- mpg in comfort mode on my commute (2 miles city, 38 miles highway) achieved 22 mpg (normal driving). Achieved 27 mpg with Hyundai using similar driving on same segment. I didn’t have the chance to drive the eco to provide a good reference. The GLE 350 managed to achieve 19 mpg (comfort mode)

While I was very annoyed with the choice BMW made around apple car play, the improved driving experience is what made me go with X3

I drove:
- Hyundai 2011 Tucson, 2.4L engine
- Mercedes 2017, GLE 350, 3L engine
- Toyota 2007, Camry, 2.4L engine

Tested
- Audi Q5, 2019
- Audi A5, 2019
- Porsche Macan 2019
- Porsche Cayenne 2019
- Mercedes GLC 2019
- Toyota Highlander 2019, 3L
- Acura MDX and RDX 2019
- BMW 530e, 2019
- BMW 530i, 2019
- BMW 330i, 2020
- Honda Acord 2019
- Hyundai Kona EV 2019

Best on my experience BMW X3 had the best driving experience, followed closely by Audi Q5. I also enjoyed driving the 330i series and was a strong candidate. I didn’t enjoy the 530i as much as I expected (I drove it right after the X3)

I provided 5 stars for reliability as I couldn’t skip the rating. I hope the car will be reliable in the long run
